Chanel Fall'13
Brothers Alain and Gerard Wertheimer own the French luxury brand Chanel. The company was founded in 1909 by their grandfather Pierre Wertheimer, who eventually bought out his early partner Gabrielle (Coco) Chanel, the company's namesake. In addition to clothing, the company sells perfume, make-up, jewelry and watches. Alain, a U.S. resident, is the chairman of the company and Gerard, who lives in Switzerland, heads up the watch division. The brothers are very private and don't give interviews to the press. In addition to Chanel, they own French vineyards Rauzan-Ségla in Margaux and Chateau Canon in Saint-Emilion. They also have thoroughbreds, including horses that have won such races as the French Derby and the Breeders' Cup Turf in the U.S.
